AUTUMN 2022 WAVE is Now Launched

Many companies have programs for mentoring in the workplace. The effectiveness of them varies widely. Given this disparity, it can be hard to determine how to design and implement a mentoring program.

However, at PMI Belgium, we believe that in the current work environment, it’s becoming ever more crucial to offer this valuable service to our members. Mentoring is a complementary way to learn through others, besides learning through structured courses and programs.

"Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be." Eric Parsloe, the Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring

The mentoring programme will assist both mentors and mentees in attaining key life skills through sharing experiences with each other.
What are Mentors and Mentees?

Mentor is defined as a person who is committed and able to share knowledge and experience in a manner that may lead to enhanced performance by positively affecting the professional and/or personal growth of a mentee. (See our Mentor Current Team : Here)

Mentee is defined as a committed person who seeks direction from a Mentor or benefits from his/her experience and lessons learned. Protégés must be active.

Mentors are expected to:

  • Offer challenging ideas

  • Coach and teach by example

  • Be open to new ideas and approaches
  • Assess your abilities objectively

Mentors AND Mentees are expected to:

Become a GROW Program Sponsor, contact our Director of sponsorship: sponsoring@pmi-belgium.be I had the opportunity to participate in the GROW program and after the mentors' presentation, I chose Alexander as mentor, and he accepted me as mentee. During our first meeting Alexander was good with setting up expectations and we had a great relationship throughout the program. He was flexible enough and we have been able to organize our meetings in a way that suited both our busy schedules (online meetings only due to Covid restrictions). I could learn from his experiences and guidance how to complete the steps to follow for PMP certification. In addition, we shared PM experience and challenges that enhanced this mentorship experience. Based on my experience, I would recommend this program to any PM interested in enhancing his/her career and of course I would recommend Alexander as mentor. Also, my congratulations are going to the rest of the team for organizing and leading this program which is a benefit to the PMI Belgium members. If possible, after getting my certification, I would definitely like to be involved if such a mentorship program occurs in the future, as a potential mentor. Mihaela Alexandrescu I experienced the support of mentoring as a great opportunity to improve myself in the creation of my training activities. I had the chance to work with Patrick Kamba as a mentor for +/- 6 months and it was a great experience. Patrick is a listening mentor and ready to share his experiences as managers of major projects. From simple examples, he explains notions that are sometimes too technical and complex. But what I particularly appreciate in mentoring is the human side of the mentors. We don't just talk about the technical aspect of projects; there is the whole human side of the exchanges and above all the concern for the very person of the mentees : their well-being, avoid overwork and learn to appreciate the efforts and successes acquired. I will definitely recommend Mentoring to anyone looking to advance in project management! Joyce Lualaba AUTUMN 2022 WAVE is Now Launched  Many companies have programs for mentoring in the workplace.
