Description
A guided discussion about what it takes for a project manager to manage an IT project. We propose a discovery of the world of IT project management for non IT project managers. What is the required mindset, what are the skills to acquire? What is the entry ticket for a project manager to secure a successful move in the world of IT software?

Scrum is a method for managing projects that allows for quick development and testing, especially within a small team.
- Configuration management applied to IT is code versioning tools (GitHub)
Configuration management is a system for establishing consistency of a product throughout its life and tracks individual configuration items of an IT system.
- Typical toolset in IT Project management tools : JIRA, Trello, Documentation : Confluence
The IT project management tools contain features for managing and completing team's project tasks in one platform.
- Delivery: Environments and testing strategies
A test environment allows software developers to check how a code/program will behave in a live environment
- IT & Business requirements: It’s often difficult to communicate clear requirements upfront, many assumptions can perturbate the vision
It’s important to communicate to the IT team about a problem to solve, the features and functionalities required to provide a solution, but sometimes the focus is on features and not on the user goals and experience.
- Turn over in IT and retention of know-how, the know-how on the architecture of the IT solutions
The IT industry turnover rate is quite high compared to other business sectors. Talent retention is still a challenge for the companies who have mastered recruitment to perfection.
- Software Development cycles
Software Development Life Cycle encompasses practices to build software applications and typically it is divided into six to eight steps: Planning, Requirements, Design, Build, Document, Test, Deploy, Maintain.
