Introducing CoP Life Sciences: A PMI Belgium Chapter Initiative

Articles

Many of us fondly remember last year’s R&D PPM Cross-sharing & Development Day at GSK — a special day dedicated to uniting project managers from across the drug development sector. We explored the deep connections between project management and research & development, and the energy in the room was palpable. For many participants, it felt like coming home — a space where knowledge, experiences, and best practices were freely shared among peers in the Life Sciences industry.

The term Life Sciences covers a broad field, encompassing the study of living organisms — their structure, function, growth, evolution, and classification. This vast domain includes pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and medical devices, offering rich opportunities for collaboration and learning, beyond the usual competitive boundaries of our industry.

That day, we witnessed a powerful collaboration among life science companies — an initiative warmly welcomed by attendees representing various organizations within the sector. Together, we connected, exchanged insights, and found inspiration from real-world experiences and shared challenges.

Given the highly regulated and innovative nature of the Life Sciences industry, the idea emerged to create a dedicated Community of Practice (CoP) Life Sciences under the PMI Belgium Chapter.

Why Create the CoP Life Sciences Under the PMI Belgium Chapter?

The global mission of the Project Management Institute (PMI) is to enhance project success worldwide. By partnering with PMI Belgium, we gain access to a trusted global network, proven methodologies, and a shared commitment to excellence.

Establishing the CoP Life Sciences within this framework allows us to stay aligned with global best practices while fostering a specialized local community of professionals in pharmaceuticals, biotech, and medical devices. This community will collaborate, learn, and make a meaningful impact together.

Mission of the PMI Belgium Chapter – CoP Life Sciences

The CoP Life Sciences is dedicated to fostering collaboration across Life Sciences organizations to advance project management excellence.

Our mission is to share best practices through joint publications, webinars, blogs, white papers, and academic contributions. A flagship initiative is the annual “R&D Cross-Sharing and Development Day,” hosted on a rotating basis by participating member companies.

The CoP Life Sciences is composed of members from various Life Sciences companies, with the PMI Belgium Chapter serving as chair to uphold and safeguard the community’s mission and vision. This ensures a neutral, structured, and forward-thinking environment where innovation, knowledge sharing, and professional growth can thrive.
