Volunteer in the Spotlight: Nurşen Erginsoy

PMI Belgium

The PMI Belgium Chapter is extremely grateful for the time and effort that our 50+ volunteers contribute to make our organization a vibrant and engaging community focused on elevating both individual knowledge and collective competency in the field of project management.

We therefore want to give our volunteers a virtual podium in the newsletter to recognize their involvement and to inspire others to do the same.

For this very first edition of our new Volunteer in the Spotlight, we are delighted to introduce Nurşen Erginsoy, a dedicated member of PMI Belgium whose passion for project management and community building shines through her volunteer work. Professionally, Nurşen bridges technical expertise with human-centric leadership, driving strategic initiatives and fostering meaningful connections. Personally, she enjoys engaging with diverse cultures and is committed to continuous learning and growth, both individually and as part of a community.

Some of you might have met Nurşen during the PMI BeNeLux Summit 2025, where she was one of the volunteers assisting speakers and participants by answering questions, providing directions, and supporting logistical needs. You may also have seen her at events throughout the year, including the New Year’s Reception ’24, the weekly Women in Project Management (WiPM) online meetings, or the first physical WiPM meeting held on International Women’s Day.

Why did you consider becoming a volunteer?

Volunteering aligns deeply with my belief in giving back and growing together. I wanted to give back to the project management community that has supported my own growth. Volunteering provided a platform to share knowledge, expand my network, and develop new skills in a real-world setting, all while contributing to an organization whose mission I truly believe in.

What do you hope to get or have gotten out of the volunteer assignment yourself?

Through this experience, I’ve gained not only practical insights into event management but also unexpected friendships and mentors, something that even digital platforms can’t fully replicate. The most rewarding part was realizing how much collective energy and passion volunteers bring, reminding me that every small effort contributes to something bigger.

Why would you recommend others take on a volunteer role for PMI Belgium?

I would highly recommend volunteering with PMI Belgium because it’s more than just an opportunity to help, it’s a chance to grow. I’d recommend volunteering to anyone looking to build not just their resume, but also their confidence, network, and sense of belonging. Whether you’re sharing insights online (like when I was responsible for taking care of my daughter and couldn’t participate in physical activities) or participating in events, every contribution helps you grow while making a real impact. Whether you’re looking to build leadership skills, connect with like-minded professionals, or simply give back, PMI Belgium offers a supportive and enriching environment in which to do so.

Is there anything else you want to share?

I’d like to extend my gratitude to everyone at PMI Belgium for fostering such a warm and collaborative volunteer culture. Being part of this community has been both a privilege and an inspiration, and I encourage anyone considering volunteering to take that step. You might be surprised at how much you receive in return.

I remember last year, a few months after I became a PMI Belgium Chapter member, when I didn't know anyone yet, we met in Mechelen for a New Year’s Reception. The significance of this event for me was that it was the first time I’d ever attended such an event, leaving my 10-month-old daughter with her father in a country I had just moved to. It was the most fun I’d ever had alone. There were some amazing people there who made me feel so close and friendly, as if I’d known them before. I’m so glad you exist.

I’d love to invite the PMI Belgium community to connect with me on social media (LinkedIn and Instagram), where I regularly share content focused on organizational changes accelerated or influenced by technology and personal development. I also share this content monthly on my website and newsletter. In addition, I post my impressions of events I attend or trips I take, developing perspective and inspiring networking and collaboration energy.

Volunteering has reminded me that every connection matters, online and offline, and I’m excited to continue this journey with all of you.
