Tackling the Climate Crisis in the PMI
I hope that you have enjoyed a great summer.
Apart from a short break, walking in the Yorkshire Dales in the UK, mine has been rather busy!
PMIstandards+
In my last PMI Belgium Chapter newsletter article (3 months ago), I mentioned that I was working with the PMIstandards+ team to prepare some articles relating to the technique of "Discounted Cash Flow" being re-applied as "Discounted Carbon Flow".
I'm delighted to share that there are now 6 articles published online as follows:
1: The Power of Discounted Cash Flow Analysis
2: Applying Discounted Cash Flow Analysis in the Sewers of Paris
3: Extending Discounted Cash Flow Analysis to Discounted Carbon Flow
4: How Discounted Carbon Flow Analysis Could Help Us Meet the Paris Agreement Targets
5: Upskilling Project Professionals to Apply Discounted Carbon Flow Analysis
6: Discounted Carbon Flow: A Worked Example for Selecting Renewable Energy Solutions
The articles include links to downloadable spreadsheet examples to illustrate each of the concepts presented.
If you are a PMI member, you can access these using your PMI login, and if not, you can use this link for a free 30-day membership.
ProjectManagement.com
To bring the above articles "to life", I wanted to explain the concepts in a live session, so have set up the opportunity to present a PMI Global webinar on ProjectManagement.com.
Save the date - it would be great to get your support!
I will start by explaining the power of Discounted Cash Flow, and it's associated financial metrics: Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
I'll go on to explain how we can adapt these metrics (which have been used by industry since the early days of the coal industry) to the positive task of tackling the Climate Crisis.
I believe that “Discounted Carbon Flow” analysis could be a key to us achieving the targets of the Paris Agreement, and I will explain how.

In conclusion
The Climate Crisis continues to bring impact to many of us, and on a global scale.
Personally, I find the best way to face the concerns this brings, is through action.
Your feedback always welcome, so please contact me via stuart.thorp@pmi-belgium.be.
Have a great autumn!
