Note of the president August 2026
Shape the Future. Grow Together. Lead the Change.
Dear PMI Belgium Community,
August is traditionally a month to slow down, take a breath and reflect. But for PMI Belgium, the months ahead are anything but quiet. We are entering an important period for our Chapter — a period of renewal, growth and opportunity.
And I would like to invite you to be part of it.
Looking ahead: the future of our Chapter is in our hands
The call for candidates for the 2026 PMI Belgium Chapter elections is now open. This is more than an election. It is an invitation to step forward, contribute your ideas and use your talents to help shape the future of our professional community.
Being a Chapter leader is not simply about adding another title to your CV. It is an opportunity to:
- develop leadership and strategic skills;
- learn from experienced professionals and fellow volunteers;
- broaden your network across industries and organizations;
- discover talents and capabilities you may not use in your daily job;
- gain experience in communication, governance, events, marketing, finance, community building or strategy;
- and, most importantly, make a difference for other project professionals.
We often talk about the evolution of the project manager role. The same applies to leadership.
You don't need to have all the answers before you step forward. You develop by stepping forward.
So if you have ever thought “I could contribute something”, “I have an idea”, or even “I would like to learn more about how a professional association works” — this may be your moment.
The future of PMI Belgium will not be shaped by a few people. It will be shaped by people who are willing to contribute, learn and lead together.
A year of growth — and something to be proud of
There is another reason for us to look ahead with confidence.
Since the launch of the Unified Membership Model in February 2026, PMI Belgium has seen strong membership growth. This is an important milestone for our Chapter and something we can all be proud of.
But membership growth is not the destination.
Membership becomes meaningful when people connect, learn, contribute and create value together.
To all our new members: welcome to PMI Belgium!
You have joined a community that is much more than a membership card or access to professional resources. It is a network of project professionals who are navigating the same changing world and who can learn enormously from one another.
So don't stay on the sidelines.
Join an event. Meet another project professional. Attend a webinar. Participate in a Community of Practice. Volunteer for an initiative. And, of course, join us at our flagship event of the year:
PM Fair 2026 — The Evolution of the Project Manager
On 2 October 2026 at The EGG in Brussels, we will bring together project professionals, leaders and innovators around one of the most important questions facing our profession:
How is technology — and particularly AI — changing the role of the project manager?
AI is developing at extraordinary speed. It is changing how we analyse information, plan, communicate, make decisions, manage risks and collaborate.
But the question is not simply:
“What can AI do for project managers?”
The bigger question is:
“What will organisations expect from project managers when AI can do more and more of the work, we traditionally did?”
The project manager of the future will need to move beyond execution.
We will need stronger strategic thinking, business acumen, leadership, adaptability, creativity, influence and the ability to connect technology with people and value.
That is exactly why this year's PM Fair theme - “The Evolution of the Project Manager Role - from Executor to Strategic Enabler” - is so relevant.
Our programme will explore how we can prepare ourselves for this evolution: from developing new skills, to delivering value in increasingly complex environments, embracing sustainability and transforming the way PMOs support organizations.
And we are delighted to have an exceptional panel bringing different perspectives to the conversation, with Saskia Van Uffelen, Thierry Geerts, Stefan Dierickx and Jurgen Ingels, moderated by Wim De Vilder.
This is not a conversation about technology replacing project managers.
It is a conversation about how technology will challenge us to become better project leaders.
Your next step
As we move into the final months of 2026, I encourage you to ask yourself two questions:
Where can I contribute to our PMI community?
And:
What do I need to learn to remain relevant in the evolving world of projects?
Perhaps your answer is volunteering.
Perhaps it is joining a Community of Practice.
Perhaps it is attending PM Fair.
Perhaps it is simply meeting other project professionals and sharing your experience.
Whatever your answer, take the next step.
PMI Belgium is growing. Our profession is evolving. Technology is accelerating change.
Let's make sure that we don't simply react to that change.
Let's shape it.
I look forward to seeing many of you in the months ahead — as members, volunteers, leaders, learners and contributors.
Together, we can continue to build a PMI Belgium Chapter that is not only growing in numbers, but growing in impact, relevance and value for our members.
See you at PM Fair 2026!
With smiling greetings,
Anja Vandenbergh
