Newsletter-May 2018
Dear valued members,
Hope you all have been enjoying the nice and warm sunny days in the month of May, which is rather exceptional for the season. Some of you may also be getting ready to run the 20 KM of Brussels that will take place on 27th of May. If you do, please send me your pictures at renuka.ayri@pmi-belgium.beso that we can publish them in our next newsletter.
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
Getting back to business, let me update you on our last chapter event that took place on 19th of April at ISF Tervuren. We had a house-full and registrations were closed two weeks before the event. This was one of the most interactive event. Kris Troukens, an expert on GDPR shared a lot of information about why the companies have to be ready and what they need to do to comply with the new GDPR. There was also a panel discussion at the end of the presentation and the participants had a plenty of questions for the panellists.
If you missed the opportunity to attend the event, don’t worry! You can download the presentation from our website.
The pictures of the event are also available on our website.
GDPR is a hot topic at the moment as it will come into force on 25 May 2018. Frank Turley, the Director of Professional Development, interviewed Kris Troukens, Partner at GeDaPRe.eu to find out “What a PM should know about GDPR”. Please read the Interview with Kris Troukens on GDPR to learn about what the big players, like Google and Facebook are doing to get ready for the big day and what the government is doing to ensure that everything is running smoothly.
If you want to learn even more on GDPR, please go to https://ec.europa.eu/info/law/law-topic/data-protection/data-protection-eu_en

We need help !
The PMI Belgium Chapter needs your input!
Our chapter exists for and through the PMI members active in Belgium. To be able to adjust our program and activities as much as possible to your wishes, we need to collect this information in some way.
How?
We have initiated two actions:
1. Surveys: You have received an invitation to participate in the annual survey. This survey originates from the board and the purpose is to collect your interests. Please participate in the survey as your remarks will be handled by the board and appropriate action can be taken. There is also an incentive linked to it. For more details click here.
2. The second action is more direct. At each (national) event, we will have a “suggestion box” located at the registration desk. If you have any suggestions on every possible topic related to PMI Belgium, write them down on a piece of paper and deposit it in the box. Or talk to someone from the board during the event and share your thoughts. You may also send your feedback or suggestions by email to membership@pmi-belgium.be.
Volunteering with PMI Belgium
After the Volunteering Day in February, the board took some actions to involve more people into volunteering activities. This resulted in a list of volunteering activities we currently have open in the VRMS system.
We are currently looking for volunteers for the following positions:
- Satellite event leaders
- Chapter event facilitators
- Photographer for the PM Fair
- Survey coordinator
More information for these opportunities is available on the website
https://vrms.pmi.org

Members joining the PMI Belgium Chapter for the first time receive an e-mail and an invite to participate in an interactive Skype call with some of our board members.
During that call the history of the chapter, the day-to-day activities, the future events and the website are being explained. As it is a call there is also a possibility to ask questions and open discussions.
If you get an invite, don’t hesitate to accept it and participate. The next call will be planned for Monday the 4th of June at 8 PM.
