Project Management Seminar "Skills for Life" (PMS4L) & International edition
With pleasure and emotion, I completed the second lesson of the Project Management Seminar "Skills for Life" (PMS4L) VIII edition for the students of my school.

A collaboration started at the PMI Leadership Institute Meeting of Prague last year, between my PMI Belgium Chapter and the colleagues of the PMI Southern Italy Chapter under the patronage of the School Office of the Sicily Region (PCTO - U.S.R. Sicily with Project Management Institute Southern Italy Chapter 2022/2023).
But experience did not finish here, because I had the chance partecipate at the 2nd level of the seminar also with the PMI Turkey Chapter:
The PMS4L WEB IE – International edition of the Project Management Skills for Life seminar!
The key points of the PMS4L WEB IE seminar are:
1. Teaching material in English
2. Participating students, at least 16 years old
3. Students possess the B2 proficiency of the English language
4. Students are supported by a tutor and an English language teacher
5. Students work in groups of 6
6. The seminar is divided into 2 lessons.
The first lesson (L1) is "cognitive"
This class is taught in the students' native language and will be organized by the local PMI chapter.
The "cognitive" lesson is held by the PMI volunteer who will present Project Management to the students, explaining the basic principles
- What is a project
- What is Project Management
- The phases of the project (Process Groups)
- Brief description of the Knowledge Areas
- The risks
To allow the realization of the 2 exercises assigned to the students (to be presented in the second lesson):
1. "Making a cake"
2. "Season of a football team"
Models for creating the 6 deliverables foreseen by the 2 exercises are provided and explained to the students.
The "cognitive" lesson also includes the presentation of 2/3 students with the aim of being "a guide" for the student presentations who will initiate the intervention of each student in the second lesson.
The second lesson (L2) "realization"
The lesson is in English and unique with students from all participating countries.
The lesson is focused on the students.
The lesson starts in plenary (all students in one class, the main room); the volunteer coordinator illustrate the dynamics of the lesson and then divide the students into different rooms.
The rooms are defined in a meeting of volunteers (CTV) before the "implementation" lesson with the constraint that in each room there are teams from different countries.
Each room will be led by a volunteer (coordinator) assigned to the room; all assignments will be decided in the CVT.
In the rooms the groups present the exercises. Before starting his speech on the deliverable assigned to him, each student of the team introduce himself (schools, age, future projects, ...).
Another important thing is that the room coordinator is able to ask the students questions. For example, the volunteer can ask the student which university he would like to attend, if he does sports, watches movies, listens to music, reads books, etc.
For each of the 2 exercises (making a cake and a football team's competitive season), at the end of the interventions of all the groups there is an animated discussion by the coordinator on the different solutions presented by the groups.
The "construction" lesson ends with the online compilation of the "SATISFACTION QUESTIONARY".
Each group have 6 students, because there are 6 deliverables, 5 related to the first exercise "Making the cake" and 1 deliverable for "Competitive season of the football team".
Each student in the group presents a deliverable.
Between the first and second lessons the students work on the deliverables. It is suggested that students from each team work together on the delivery of the deliverables.
In the future, it is hoped that other countries will participate and to form mixed groups with students from different countries in order to favor the integration of different cultures.
So, if you interested don't hesitate to reach out!
